About Parkers

Parker Motor Services Ltd, the history...

The story so far....

Parker Motor Services was founded in 1924 (then Main Street Garage) by Joseph & Esther Parker, selling petrol, repairing and servicing cars. When Joseph died in the late 1930's, his son George and his wife Gladys took over the helm and ran it until 1969 when he sold the business to his three sons and present directors James, William and John.

Parker Motor Services today is enjoying its fourth generation of Parkers and employs approximately 200 people. With 80 years experience in the retail and trade business, Parkers are able to provide through our network of branches an opportunity to purchase all products needed for the automotive sector, backed up with the knowledge and customer care that has seen us develop and prosper over the last 80 years.

Starting from just one branch in the 1920's, Parkers has steadily grown and expanded to our present network of eleven motorfactor branches, two petrol filling sites with integral workshop, a state of the art crash repair centre and an online leisure website offering UK wide distribution. This expansion has taken our turnover at present to approximately £21 million per year.

Our latest aquisition has been the former Tanvic spares group with branches in Newark, Grantham, Retford, Melton Mowbray, Corby and Loughborough. This latest aquisition has been a significant investment for us and underlines our determination tocontinue to grow and prosper offering more and more customers the benefits of Parkers 'personal touch' to customer service. With the former Tanvic branches strategic locations, Parkers are able to offer extensive coverage over the entire area of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Our new branch locations means that we are now starting to venture into Northamptonshire, Peterborough and Lincolnshire.

As a company it has always been our philosophy to offer quality brands of products at competitive prices to both the trade and public, with this in mind, we recently joined the buying group known as "The Rapid Group" which consists of nine independent motor factors similar to us, to join forces and purchase quality brands. This move has meant that we have been able to stay ahead of the competition in terms of availibilty and products and has ensured that we stay right up to date with emerging products and market trends.

Parkers will continue to invest heavily in stock and technology to ensure that we maintain our reputation as the company most likely to have your required part on the shelf and competitively priced. Our family background has always stood us out from the competition in the fact that we all have an understanding of all parts of the business and we are all available to talk directly to, either in person or on the phone. Unlike national factor chains, you will always have access to both your branch manager and any director above them if needs be. This structure and service is why we believe we have managed to grow and prosper over the last eighty years and we intend to stay true to our values.
